Bergland Ltd. (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Bazaar mobile application (the “App”), a peer-to-peer marketplace that allows users in Mauritius to buy and sell new and used goods. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Bazaar App.
We are committed to complying with the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017 and Google Play requirements.
1. Information We Collect
a) Information You Provide Directly
To create an account and use the core features of the App, you must provide either an email address or a phone number (at least one is mandatory). You may also choose to provide:
A username (required) and optionally your full name
A profile photo (optional)
A location/description of your area (you manually enter this – we do not collect precise GPS coordinates)
b) Information Collected Automatically via Firebase (Google)
When you sign in with Google, we receive basic Google account information needed for authentication (name, email address, and Google profile picture if you have one).
Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (for push notifications) may collect certain technical data such as device identifiers, IP address, and usage metadata solely for the purpose of providing and securing the service.
We do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics for personal data collection, or any other analytics or advertising SDKs.
c) Content You Upload
Photos and descriptions of items you list for sale
Messages you send to other users
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Create and manage your account
Enable you to post listings, browse items, and contact buyers/sellers
Send you push notifications about messages or activity on your listings
Facilitate communication between buyers and sellers (e.g., showing your chosen username, phone number, or email to the other party when necessary for a transaction)
Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
Comply with legal obligations under Mauritian law
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We share your personal information only in the following limited circumstances:
With other Bazaar users when necessary to complete a transaction (e.g., showing your phone number or chosen contact method to a buyer/seller)
With Google/Firebase as a processor acting strictly on our behalf to provide authentication, storage, and notification services
With law enforcement or government authorities if we are legally required to do so under Mauritian law (we will not voluntarily disclose data)
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case we will notify you)
We do not sell your personal data and do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Messages between users are automatically deleted 90 days after they are sent.
Item listings and associated photos are automatically deleted 90 days after a successful sale or when the seller removes the listing.
If you delete your account, or if your account becomes inactive, we will retain your account data (including email/phone, username, etc.) for a maximum of 1 year for fraud prevention and legal compliance purposes, after which it will be permanently deleted or anonymised.
You can request deletion of your account and data at any time by contacting us (see contact details below).
5. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures (including Firebase security features) to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for adults. Users under 18 may only use the App under the supervision and with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without such consent.

Access your personal data

Request erasure of your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
Object to or restrict processing

8. International Data Transfers
Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers, which may be located outside Mauritius (primarily in the EU or USA). Google provides appropriate safeguards under the Data Protection Act 2017 and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the effective date.
